But in some cases like the Sony BRAVIA KDL-40V5100 HDTV, getting a cheaper TV under 50" should be just fine if none of the extra features like Internet connectivity is a big deal. In fact, the KDL-40V5100 contains all the best features found in the more expensive BRAVIA models.

Technical Features
The KDL-40V5100 bears the Full HD 1080p specification so there is nothing seriously missing there and the 50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio still makes this much better than the smaller models out there with just a fraction of that amount. When the Advanced Contrast Enhancer and dynamic backlight control features are used, the overall image quality turns out to be better than most of the other 40-inch TVs.
The ACE combined with the backlight automatically optimizes the image in such a way that darker areas are more visible without increasing the power consumption. This makes it great for avid gamers and frequent movie watchers as these people will enjoy their favorite titles and games in full detail.
Technologies
The backlight is fitted with a technology known as the Light Sensor which intelligently adjusts the backlight according to the room lighting conditions. It materials used from the packaging to the TV itself are recycled making this a nice green TV with an Energy Star 3.0 certification.
Although it doesn't have the BRAVIA Engine 3 for maximum image quality, the BRAVIA Engine 2 is still present and still does wonders by reducing noise and producing vivid colors while sharpening edges. When combined with the Motionflow 120Hz, high-speed animations look smooth and gamers will notice a better experience when playing their favorite fast-paced 3-D titles. It also has the 24p True Cinema technology which ensures that Blu-ray movies are watched with their optimal frame rate at 24 frames per second.
Extra Features
Unfortunately, the KDL-40V5100 doesn't have networking features, but images and music files can still be played without the need of an external player by placing them into a USB drive and plugging it in the built-in USB port. Other devices can use this port as well and Sony devices get the added benefits of the BRAVIA Sync when they are plugged into the HDMI port so they can be controlled using the remote.
Reception
Positive reviews were still made by people despite the lack of networking features because of the brilliant colors that the KDL-40V5100 displays. Many praised the KDL-40V5100 for being easy to use and displaying clearest visuals without the need of adjusting the settings too much.
Bottom Line
The Sony KDL-40V5100 may not be the most advanced TV in the 40-inch category, but the image quality should be enough to please people that want an affordable TV that can playback movies, programs, and games in Full HD.
